Problem explained
The compressors may waste electricity on air leaks and on more pressure than the presses need.
How it works today
The plant molds plastic parts on its presses, and two compressors send air to every press through one main line.
Air that leaks at a hose or a fitting still costs electricity to make, even when no press runs.
A higher pressure setting makes the compressors work harder and pushes more air out of every leak.
What we saw and heard
- On our visit we saw the two compressors, and air hoses with hand nozzles at the presses.
- We could not read any gauge we saw, and the presses were too loud to hear a leak.
What it costs
- If leaks and extra pressure are both there, we estimate the wasted electricity at about $9,400 per year.
- Fixing it could save about $8,600 per year, after the cost of finding new leaks each quarter.
